Dog Control Order 2018

Dog Control Order 2018

It is now an offence for a person in charge of a dog to fail to produce a device or other suitable means for removing dog faeces and transporting it to a bin, whether or not the dog has defecated – for example dog owners now need to be able to show a council officer that they are carrying a suitable bag.

Failure to comply with this order can result in a £100 fixed penalty notice or on conviction a maximum fine of £1,000. However a person in charge of a dog does not commit an offense if they have a ‘reasonable excuse’ for example persons with certain disabilities who rely on an assistance dog are exempt as is any person on private land where the landowner has given their consent.
