We are a small and growing enthusiastic group. We have two activities within the overall society. The original group holds meetings every other month when a guest speaker will entertain and enlighten us with a short talk on one of his or her specialist subjects. The second is specifically a self-help Family Research group that meets every month. In addition, we try to organise at least one visit to a place of interest during the better weather. Every year we find somewhere different to enjoy the surroundings and a social day out.
Our members from the Wheatleys, and from several neighbouring towns and villages – all have a mutual interest in our dual hobbies of local and social history as well as tracing our family roots, their associated histories or activities.
Researching your own family history and tracing ancestors can be a lonely and often frustrating pastime. We aim to help one another if possible and to share our findings. Some members have recently started their research whilst others can trace their roots back over several centuries. The Research group meets every month on the 2nd Wednesday at 2.00pm in the Village Hall, South Wheatley as a mutual help group.
Family history is only a part of our activities, as we also share an interest in the history of the area. We have also published 2 books about the joint villages of North & South Wheatley
New members are always welcome, so come along to one or two of our meetings and find out what it is all about. We meet on Monday mornings at the Village Hall in South Wheatley.
You will find our next few meetings listed on the Forthcoming Events page. More details on Facebook
